Ship a car, truck or machinery from the USA to Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire

Dakar and Abidjan, the two largest gateways on the western bulge, both feeding Mali and Burkina Faso inland. Cars, trucks, machinery and general cargo. Licensed FMC NVOCC, real price in 24 to 48 hours.

Dakar and Abidjan are the two largest ports on the western bulge of Africa, and both serve far more than their own countries. Dakar reaches Mali, Abidjan reaches Burkina Faso and Mali too. We ship cars, trucks, used construction machinery and general cargo there from anywhere in the USA.

We hold live carrier rates for both ports. Dakar and Abidjan are on our current sailing schedule, so we can usually price a booking quickly rather than going away to ask. Tell us the vehicles and the US pickup point.

The two gateways

Senegal

Dakar

The westernmost major port in Africa, serving Senegal and the corridor inland toward Mali.

Cote d'Ivoire

Abidjan

One of the largest ports in West Africa, serving Cote d'Ivoire plus Burkina Faso and Mali.

Onward

Inland corridors

Both feed landlocked neighbours overland. That leg is arranged by the buyer or their transitaire.

What we ship

Cars, trucks, machinery, cargo

Auction vehicles, commercial trucks, construction plant and general containerised freight.

What we move to Senegal and Cote d'Ivoire

Cars and pickups from Copart, IAA, Manheim and eBay Motors, several to a container so the freight splits. Trucks and commercial vehicles. Used construction machinery from Ritchie Bros., IronPlanet and Purple Wave. And general containerised cargo. See the auction car export guide.

Both countries are francophone, and your transitaire will work in French. We keep the export documentation clean and consistent so nothing is lost in the handover.

Why book this lane with us

We are the carrier. Cassandra Logistics is federally licensed by the Federal Maritime Commission under OTI No. 025125NF, and the bill of lading is issued in our own name.

We collect from anywhere in the USA, running or not, and load at our own warehouse where the cargo is braced and photographed before the doors close.

We file the US export declaration so the American side is clean before the vessel sails. See our West Africa regional guide.

How it works

Pour nos clients francophones, un resume est disponible sur notre page en francais.

Shipping to Senegal and Cote d'Ivoire
What is the best way to ship a car from the USA to Dakar?

In a container with several vehicles sharing the box, booked with the licensed carrier rather than a broker. Ocean freight is charged on the container rather than per car. Cassandra Logistics is FMC-licensed under OTI No. 025125NF and issues the bill of lading in its own name. Get a price in 24 to 48 hours.

Who ships cars from the USA to Abidjan?

We do, as a licensed US NVOCC. We collect from any state, load and brace at our own warehouse in New Jersey, Savannah, Houston or Baltimore, file the US export declaration and ship to Abidjan or Dakar. The bill of lading comes from us as the carrier, which means one accountable party rather than a chain of intermediaries passing messages along.

Can I ship an auction car to Senegal?

Yes. We collect directly from Copart, IAA, Manheim and eBay Motors yards anywhere in the United States, bring the vehicle to our warehouse and ship it to Dakar. You never need to be in the country, and most of our clients here never are.

Can you collect from any US state?

Yes. Nationwide pickup and towing from any state, whether the vehicle is at an auction yard, a dealer or a private seller. Non-runners get winched rather than driven, which is routine. Distance affects the cost, not whether we can do it. Tell us the pickup address and the condition when you ask for a price, so the right truck and equipment are sent the first time rather than on a second visit.

Can I ship trucks and commercial vehicles?

Yes. Tractor units, box trucks and commercial vehicles move by container where they fit and by flat-rack where they do not. Send us the make, model and transport dimensions and we will work out the most economical method for that unit. Import eligibility for commercial vehicles is often assessed differently from passenger cars at destination, so confirm it with your agent before you buy.

Can I ship construction machinery?

Yes. Excavators, loaders, dozers and plant bought at Ritchie Bros., IronPlanet or Purple Wave move regularly on this lane. Depending on size we ship containerised, on flat-rack or by heavy haulage, with dismantling where required. Send the make, model and year and we will confirm the transport dimensions ourselves rather than asking you to measure the machine. See the equipment guide.

Do you carry general commercial cargo?

Yes. Full container freight from any US origin, including trade goods, building materials, spare parts and equipment. Tell us the commodity, weight and volume and we will price it the same way we would a vehicle. We handle the US export filing on commercial cargo exactly as we do on vehicles, so the paperwork side is one process rather than two.

Can I ship a salvage vehicle to Dakar or Abidjan?

West Africa has a deep vehicle repair trade and salvage stock moves here routinely. Confirm the position for your specific vehicle with your transitaire before bidding, but this is one of the regions where the numbers usually work rather than one where they do not. See which countries accept salvage.

The inland corridors
Can I ship to Dakar and move the cargo to Mali?

Yes, it is an established corridor. We deliver the container to Dakar and the overland leg is arranged by you or your transitaire. Tell us the final destination country at the outset, because transit cargo is documented differently from a Senegalese import.

Does Abidjan serve landlocked countries too?

Yes. Abidjan is one of the main gateways for Burkina Faso and Mali, which is part of why its volumes are so large. Cargo moving through follows the transit route rather than ordinary import, and your transitaire arranges it. Naming the final destination country on the booking from the start avoids a re-declaration later, which is slow and expensive to correct.

Dakar or Abidjan, which should I choose?

It usually follows the inland destination and the sailing schedule rather than any difference in capability. Dakar sits furthest west and suits Senegal and western Mali. Abidjan suits Cote d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso and the wider interior. We price both. Tell us the delivery town rather than the port and we will work backwards to whichever routing lands it cheapest.

Do you handle the overland leg?

No. We deliver the container to the port of discharge and hand over the bill of lading and documentation. The inland movement is arranged by your transitaire. We state that plainly because unexpected inland costs are how shipments go wrong on these corridors.

Cost and what is included
How much does it cost to ship a container from the USA to Abidjan?

It depends on where the cargo is in the States, the container size and the port. We hold live carrier rates for both Dakar and Abidjan, so we can usually come back quickly. Because we are the NVOCC, the number is the carrier rate. Request a quote

What is the cheapest way to move several vehicles?

Fill the container. Ocean freight is charged on the box, so three or four cars in one 40ft costs far less each than one shipped alone. If you buy regularly at auction, timing several purchases onto a single booking is the biggest saving available.

What does your price include?

Collection from the US seller, transport to our warehouse, loading and bracing, the US export filing, and the ocean freight to Dakar or Abidjan. Destination duties, port charges, your transitaire's fee and any inland leg are paid at that end. If a competing quote looks materially cheaper, send it over and we will tell you honestly what it is missing.

Why are other quotes cheaper?

Usually because they are broker prices that get revised once booked, or they exclude collection, loading or the export declaration, or they quote to the port while implying inland delivery. Ask what is excluded and who issues the bill of lading. If a competing quote looks materially cheaper, send it over and we will tell you honestly what it is missing.

How much does US collection add?

It scales with the distance from the seller to whichever warehouse suits the routing. East Coast purchases usually position most efficiently for West African sailings. We build the figure into the quote so you compare one complete number. Buying nearer one of our four warehouses can save a meaningful amount before the container is even booked, so it is worth asking before you bid.

Can you hold cargo while I buy more?

Yes. We can hold vehicles or machines at our warehouse while you buy others, then load them together in one container. Auction yards charge daily storage while our warehouse does not work that way, so waiting usually saves money. Tell us your buying pattern when you first make contact and we will plan the holding window around your auction schedule.

How we handle your cargo
How many cars fit in a 40ft container?

Usually three or four depending on the vehicles. Sedans and compact SUVs load efficiently, full-size pickups take more room and often drop the count. We confirm the loading plan once we know the exact units, and each extra vehicle lowers the cost per car.

How is a vehicle secured for the crossing?

Loaded on its own wheels, chocked, strapped at the wheels or suspension rather than over the bodywork, and blocked so it cannot shift at sea. Where the straps attach is what separates a careful load from a damaged car. We photograph the finished load as well, so there is a record of exactly how the vehicle was braced if a question ever comes up.

Will I see photos before the container is sealed?

Yes. We photograph the cargo when it reaches our warehouse and again once loaded and braced, before the doors close. That record also supports a claim if anything goes wrong in transit, which is why we do it as standard. We send them to you rather than filing them away, so you know what left the warehouse and in what condition before the vessel sails.

Can I put parts or personal items inside a vehicle?

Only if they are declared on the export filing. Undeclared goods packed inside vehicles are among the most common causes of clearance problems in the region, and the consequence lands on the importer rather than on us. Send the list when you book and we will tell you whether anything on it is likely to cause a problem at your destination.

Does machinery need cleaning before it ships?

Agricultural and earth-moving equipment is commonly required to arrive free of soil and plant residue because of pest controls. Steam cleaning before loading costs very little against the risk of a machine held at the port for cleaning at your expense. We can arrange it as part of the preparation at our warehouse so the machine leaves the USA already compliant.

Booking and timing
How quickly can I get a price?

Within 24 to 48 hours in normal cases, and often faster on this lane because we hold live carrier rates for both ports. Send the cargo details including the VIN or machine model, the US location, and the destination. If anything about the cargo makes the lane unworkable we will say so in that same reply rather than quoting you and letting it surface later.

How long does the crossing take?

It depends on the US loading port, the carrier's schedule and any transshipment. Add time for the inland leg if the cargo is continuing to Mali or Burkina Faso. We give a concrete timeline for our portion with the quote. We tell you the realistic schedule rather than the best case, because a date you can plan around is worth more than an optimistic one.

Which US ports do you load from?

Our warehouses in New Jersey, Savannah, Houston and Baltimore all serve West African sailings, with East Coast departures most common. Which loading point suits depends on where the cargo is bought and which service is running. We pick the loading point around where your cargo actually sits rather than defaulting to whichever warehouse is most convenient for us.

What if the auction has not released my title?

The vehicle cannot be exported until the title or equivalent ownership document is in hand, since the US export filing requires it. We can collect and hold the car at our warehouse while it clears, which stops auction storage charges building. Let us know the auction and lot number and we can often chase the release ourselves rather than leaving it with you.

What happens after I accept your quote?

We arrange collection, bring the cargo to our warehouse, photograph it, book the container, load and brace it, file the US export declaration and send you the bill of lading. Your transitaire takes it from the port of discharge. You get the booking reference as soon as the space is confirmed, so you can track the sailing rather than waiting to hear from us.

Working with us
Do you handle customs clearance in Senegal or Cote d'Ivoire?

No. Clearance is handled by a licensed transitaire in the destination country, working in French. We are the ocean carrier, we deliver to the port of discharge, and we provide the documentation your agent needs, kept clean and consistent. What we will do is make sure the documents reaching your agent are clean and consistent, because that is what decides how fast they can work.

Are you a licensed shipping line or a middleman?

We are the NVOCC. Cassandra Logistics is a federally licensed Ocean Transportation Intermediary under FMC licence OTI No. 025125NF, legally Royal Port Container Lines, Inc. The number is public and verifiable with the Federal Maritime Commission. Ask any company quoting you for their FMC number, and if they cannot give you one they are not the carrier.

Import rules change. The customs information on this page comes from official government sources and was accurate when published, but duties, age limits and eligibility requirements are set by the destination country and can change without notice. Cassandra Logistics is a licensed ocean carrier, not a customs authority or a legal adviser. We are not responsible for changes to foreign import law, or for decisions made by customs at destination. Always confirm current requirements with a licensed customs agent in the destination country before you buy a vehicle.
