We ship used construction machinery, trucks, project cargo and general containerised freight from anywhere in the USA to Douala, Libreville and Pointe Noire. Nationwide collection, loading at our own warehouse, US export filing handled, and a real price back in 24 to 48 hours.

Short answer. Douala, Libreville and Pointe Noire are the three main gateways into Central Africa, and they are driven by oil, mining and construction rather than by the used car trade. We ship machinery, trucks, project cargo and general containerised freight there from any US state. Douala also serves Chad and the Central African Republic overland, and transit cargo is documented differently from a Cameroonian import. All three are francophone, so your agent will work in French. This is a machinery trade, not a car trade. Central Africa imports from the United States because of oil, mining and construction. Plant, trucks, industrial equipment and project cargo are what move here in volume, and the buyers are commercial rather than scattered private importers.

The three gateways

Cameroon

Douala

The largest port in the region, serving Cameroon plus Chad and the Central African Republic overland.

Gabon

Libreville

Serving Gabon's oil, timber and mining sectors, with Owendo handling the commercial traffic.

Congo

Pointe Noire

The Republic of Congo's main port and a significant regional transshipment point.

All three

Francophone

Your clearing agent will work in French. We keep the documentation clean and consistent.

What we move to Central Africa

Used construction machinery from Ritchie Bros., IronPlanet and Purple Wave, shipped containerised, on flat-rack or by heavy haulage with dismantling where the dimensions require it. Trucks and commercial vehicles, including tippers and tractor units. Project and oversized cargo for the oil and mining sectors. And general containerised cargo, including building materials and industrial goods.

Vehicles do move here, and left-hand drive suits the road configuration across all three countries, but the volume is in equipment rather than cars.

The inland corridor from Douala

Douala is not only Cameroon's port. It is the sea gateway for Chad and the Central African Republic, both landlocked, and cargo moving through is treated as transit rather than as a Cameroonian import.

Tell us and your agent the final destination country at the outset rather than after arrival. A container declared as a Cameroonian import that was always destined for N'Djamena is expensive and slow to re-declare.

Why book this lane with us

We are the carrier. Cassandra Logistics is federally licensed by the Federal Maritime Commission under OTI No. 025125NF, and the bill of lading is issued in our own name.

We collect from anywhere in the USA and load at our own warehouse, where cargo is secured and photographed before the doors close.

We file the US export declaration so the American side is clean before the vessel sails. See our West Africa regional guide.

Shipping to Central Africa
Who ships cargo from the USA to Douala?

We do, as a licensed US NVOCC. We collect from any state, load and secure at our own warehouse in New Jersey, Savannah, Houston or Baltimore, file the US export declaration and ship to Douala, Libreville or Pointe Noire. Get a price in 24 to 48 hours.

What is the best way to ship machinery to Central Africa?

In a container where the machine fits, on flat-rack or by heavy haulage where it does not, booked with the licensed carrier rather than a forwarder. Send the make and model and we will confirm the transport dimensions and price the cheapest workable method.

Can I ship an excavator or loader to Douala?

Yes. Used construction machinery is the strongest cargo on this lane. Many mini and midi excavators fit a 40ft container once the boom and arm come off, and larger machines travel on flat-rack or by heavy haulage. See the equipment guide.

Can I ship trucks and commercial vehicles to Douala or Libreville?

Yes. Tractor units, tippers, box trucks and commercial vehicles move well here given the construction and mining activity. They ship by container where they fit and by flat-rack where they do not. Send us the make, model and transport dimensions.

Do you ship cars to Central Africa?

We can, and left-hand drive suits the road configuration across all three countries. But the volume on this lane is in machinery, trucks and project cargo rather than cars, driven by oil, mining and construction rather than the used car trade.

Can I ship project or oversized cargo to Central Africa?

Yes, by flat-rack, breakbulk or heavy haulage depending on the piece. Lead times are longer because suitable sailings are less frequent and loading takes more coordination, so plan further ahead than you would for a standard container booking.

Can you collect cargo anywhere in the USA for Central Africa?

Yes. Nationwide collection from any state, whether the cargo is at an auction site, a factory, a dealer or a private seller. Machinery collection uses different equipment from vehicle towing, so tell us the weight and dimensions and we will send the right truck.

The inland corridor
Can I ship to Douala and move the cargo to Chad?

Yes, and it is an established route. Douala is the sea gateway for both Chad and the Central African Republic, which are landlocked. We deliver the container to the port and the overland leg is arranged by you or your clearing agent.

Is cargo transiting to Chad or the CAR documented differently?

Yes. Cargo passing through Cameroon toward Chad or the Central African Republic is treated as transit rather than a Cameroonian import, with its own documentation. Name the final destination country at the outset, because a container declared wrongly is expensive to correct.

Which of the three ports should I use?

It follows the destination rather than the size of the port. Douala for Cameroon, Chad and the Central African Republic. Libreville for Gabon. Pointe Noire for the Republic of Congo and regional transshipment. Tell us the delivery city and we will route it.

Do you deliver inland in Central Africa?

Our service ends at the port of discharge. Inland delivery is arranged by your clearing agent, who is also handling clearance. Tell us the final destination anyway, since it decides which port makes sense and affects how the shipment should be declared.

Cost and what is included
How much does it cost to ship a container to Central Africa?

It depends on the US origin, the container size, the commodity and which of the three ports. Because we are the NVOCC rather than a reseller, the number is the carrier rate. Send us the cargo and the two locations for a firm figure. Request a quote

What is included in your Central Africa price?

Collection from the US seller, transport to our warehouse, loading and securing, the US export filing, and the ocean freight to the port. Duties, taxes, port handling, your agent's fee and any inland leg sit outside it and are paid at that end.

Why are other quotes to Central Africa cheaper?

Often because they exclude collection, loading or the export filing, or because they are broker prices that get revised once the booking is real. Ask what is excluded and who issues the bill of lading. A company that cannot issue one in its own name is reselling space. What drives the cost.

What is the cheapest way to move equipment here?

Get it into a container if it will fit, even if that means removing the boom, bucket or cab. Containerised rates are generally lower than flat-rack, and the dismantling cost is usually far less than the freight difference. We assess each machine rather than assuming.

How we handle your cargo
Will my machine need dismantling for Central Africa?

Often. Booms, arms, buckets, cabs and counterweights come off and travel in the same container, documented so the machine can be rebuilt at destination. Everything removed is photographed and labelled, so whoever reassembles it is not guessing.

Does equipment need cleaning before it ships to Central Africa?

Agricultural and earth-moving equipment is commonly subject to cleanliness requirements because of pest and disease controls. Steam cleaning before loading costs very little against the risk of a machine being held at the port for cleaning at your expense.

Will I get photographs before my Central Africa container is sealed?

Yes. We photograph the cargo when it reaches our warehouse and again once it is loaded and secured, before the doors close. On machinery that record also documents what was removed, which helps at reassembly.

Booking and working with us
Will my agent work in French?

Yes, all three countries are francophone and your clearing agent will work in French. We keep the export documentation clean and consistent so nothing is lost in the handover between the US side and theirs.

How fast can you quote a Central Africa shipment?

Within 24 to 48 hours in normal cases. Send the cargo details including the machine model where applicable, the dimensions and weight, the US location, and which of the three ports or which final country the cargo is going to.

What happens once I confirm a Central Africa booking?

We arrange collection, bring the cargo to our warehouse, photograph it, book the container, load and secure it, arrange dismantling where needed, file the US export declaration and send you the bill of lading. Your clearing agent takes it from the port.

Are you a licensed carrier on the Central Africa lanes or a middleman?

We are the NVOCC. Cassandra Logistics is a federally licensed Ocean Transportation Intermediary under FMC licence OTI No. 025125NF, legally Royal Port Container Lines, Inc. The number is public and verifiable with the Federal Maritime Commission before you send anyone money.

Import rules change. The customs information on this page comes from official government sources and was accurate when published, but duties, age limits and eligibility requirements are set by the destination country and can change without notice. Cassandra Logistics is a licensed ocean carrier, not a customs authority or a legal adviser. We are not responsible for changes to foreign import law, or for decisions made by customs at destination.
