Ship machinery and cargo from the USA to Pakistan

Karachi and Port Qasim. Machinery, industrial equipment and commercial cargo, plus a straight explanation of why American cars are not a workable lane here. Direct FMC-licensed NVOCC, real quote in 24 to 48 hours.

We do not ship American cars to Pakistan, and we will explain exactly why rather than take a booking we know will fail. Pakistan drives on the left, its concession schemes require right-hand-drive vehicles, and its used-vehicle rules were tightened significantly in early 2026. What Pakistan does import in volume is machinery, industrial equipment and commercial cargo, and that is what this lane is for.

Why American cars do not work here

Pakistan drives on the left, so the vehicle fleet is right-hand drive and over ninety percent of used vehicle imports originate from Japan. The concession routes that make importing affordable for overseas Pakistanis require right-hand-drive vehicles. A left-hand-drive American car can only come in commercially at full duty, which almost never makes commercial sense against a Japanese equivalent.

The rules also tightened. Pakistan's Ministry of Commerce amended the Import Policy Order through a Statutory Regulatory Order in January 2026, abolishing the personal baggage scheme for used vehicles entirely and leaving only the Transfer of Residence and Gift schemes. Reporting indicates a three-year age cap from the date of manufacture, an 850-day waiting period between imports, a one-year restriction on sale or transfer after import, and a requirement under the Transfer of Residence scheme that the vehicle originate in the same country where the applicant resided, which closes the third-country route.

The practical consequence: an overseas Pakistani living in the USA might use the Transfer of Residence route for a vehicle from the USA, but it must be right-hand drive to use the concession, which American stock is not. We would rather say this plainly than quote you for a shipment that cannot clear.

What we do ship to Pakistan

Main port

Karachi Port

Pakistan's principal maritime gateway, handling the bulk of the country's containerised trade.

Main port

Port Qasim

The second major Karachi-area port, handling containers, bulk and heavy cargo.

Cargo

Machinery and equipment

Construction and industrial machinery, plant, generators, and agricultural equipment from US auctions.

Cargo

Commercial and personal

General containerised commercial cargo, industrial goods, and household effects for relocations.

Machinery and industrial equipment

This is the real lane. Pakistan imports substantial volumes of used construction and industrial machinery, and equipment does not face the steering-side problem that rules out cars. We export excavators, loaders, dozers, generators and plant bought at Ritchie Bros., IronPlanet, and Purple Wave, collected from the auction site anywhere in the USA, shipped containerized, on flat-rack, or by heavy haulage with dismantling and securing where required. Read the equipment export guide.

General commercial cargo

We also carry ordinary containerised commercial cargo on this lane, full container load from any US origin to Karachi or Port Qasim, with nationwide collection and US export filing handled the same way as any other shipment.

How the process works

Why cars do not work on this lane
Can I ship an American car to Pakistan?

In practice, no, and we will not pretend otherwise. Pakistan drives on the left and its vehicle fleet is right-hand drive. The concession schemes that make importing affordable require right-hand-drive vehicles, so a left-hand-drive American car can only enter commercially at full duty, which almost never makes sense against a Japanese equivalent.

Why does Pakistan import Japanese cars rather than American ones?

Because Pakistan drives on the left, so right-hand-drive Japanese stock ships without any steering conversion. Reporting indicates over ninety percent of Pakistan's used car imports originate from Japan. The auction grading system there is also well understood by Pakistani buyers, which reinforces the pattern.

What happened to the personal baggage scheme?

Pakistan's Ministry of Commerce amended the Import Policy Order through a Statutory Regulatory Order in January 2026, abolishing the personal baggage scheme for used vehicles entirely. Only the Transfer of Residence and Gift schemes remain, both with tightened conditions. This was reported as targeting commercial dealers who had been using the baggage route.

What are the current conditions on the remaining schemes?

Reporting on the 2026 amendments indicates a three-year age cap from the date of manufacture, an 850-day waiting period before a further import, a one-year restriction on selling or transferring the vehicle after import, and a requirement under Transfer of Residence that the vehicle originate in the same country where the applicant resided.

Could an overseas Pakistani in the USA use Transfer of Residence?

The origin requirement would be satisfied, since the vehicle would come from the country of residence. The steering side would not, because the concession routes require right-hand drive and American vehicles are left-hand drive. That combination is what closes this route for US-sourced cars specifically.

Would you quote me for a car to Pakistan anyway?

We would tell you the problem first. If after understanding it you still want to move a vehicle commercially at full duty, we can price the shipping. What we will not do is take a booking while letting you assume a concession applies that does not. The freight is the smallest part of that mistake.

Machinery and equipment
Can I ship construction machinery from the USA to Pakistan?

Yes, and this is the real lane. Machinery does not face the steering-side problem that rules out cars, and Pakistan imports substantial volumes of used construction and industrial equipment. We ship containerized, on flat-rack, or by heavy haulage depending on dimensions and weight.

Can I ship machinery bought at Ritchie Bros. or IronPlanet?

Yes. We collect from Ritchie Bros., IronPlanet and Purple Wave sites anywhere in the USA, arrange dismantling and securing where required, handle the export filing, and ship to Karachi or Port Qasim. US machinery auctions are a normal source for this lane.

Will my excavator fit in a container?

Many mini and midi excavators will once the boom and arm are removed, and some fit with the cab lowered. Larger machines travel on flat-rack or by heavy haulage. The deciding numbers are the transport dimensions with attachments off and the weight against the payload limit. Send the model and we will check.

What about generators, plant and industrial equipment?

All normal cargo on this lane. Generators, compressors, industrial plant and processing equipment ship containerized or on flat-rack depending on size. Tell us the equipment, its dimensions and weight, and where it sits in the USA, and we will work out the most economical method.

Can I ship agricultural machinery?

Yes. Agricultural equipment moves on this lane and Pakistan has substantial agricultural demand. Bear in mind that agricultural and earth-moving equipment is commonly subject to cleanliness requirements on arrival because of pest controls, so steam cleaning before loading is worth doing.

Does machinery need dismantling?

Often, and it is a normal part of the job rather than a complication. Booms, arms, buckets, cabs and counterweights come off and travel in the same container, documented so the machine can be reassembled at destination. Dismantling usually costs far less than the freight difference between container and flat-rack.

Cost and quotes
How much does it cost to ship a container from the USA to Karachi?

It depends on the US origin, the container size, the nature of the cargo, and whether pickup is needed. Because we are a direct NVOCC rather than a broker, the rate you get is the carrier rate rather than a resold one. Tell us the cargo and origin and we will price it properly. Get a free quote in 24 to 48 hours.

How much does US collection add?

It scales with distance from the seller or auction site to our loading warehouse in New Jersey, Savannah, Houston, or Baltimore, and machinery collection costs more than car towing because the equipment required is different. We build the figure into the quote.

Why are other quotes cheaper?

Often because they are broker quotes that get revised once booked, or they exclude collection, dismantling, loading or the export filing. On machinery in particular, a quote that assumes a container fit for a machine that will not fit is not a quote, it is a placeholder. Ask what method the price assumes.

Is it cheaper to ship several machines together?

Often yes with smaller units, since two mini excavators or a machine plus attachments can share a container. Larger machines can sometimes share a flat-rack booking. If you are buying multiple lots at the same auction, tell us before you bid and we will look at consolidation.

What costs will I face in Pakistan that are not in your quote?

Customs duty and taxes, port handling, your clearing agent's fee, and inland transport. These are set by Pakistani authorities and charged at that end. Our quote covers the US side and the ocean leg to Karachi or Port Qasim.

Ports and routing
Which Pakistani port should I ship to?

Karachi Port and Port Qasim are the two options and both sit in the Karachi area. Port Qasim handles a great deal of bulk and heavy cargo, which can suit machinery. Reporting indicates all vehicle imports must clear through the Karachi ports, with no inland dry port clearance for vehicles.

Which US ports do you load from?

Our warehouses in New Jersey, Savannah, Houston and Baltimore all serve this lane. Which one suits depends on where the cargo is bought and which service is running. Routings to Pakistan commonly involve transshipment, so the sailing schedule matters as much as the loading point.

How long does shipping to Pakistan take?

It depends on the US loading port, the carrier's schedule and the transshipment involved, which is usual on this route. Heavy and flat-rack cargo generally takes longer than standard containers because suitable sailings are less frequent. We give a concrete timeline with the quote.

Do you deliver inland to Lahore or Islamabad?

Our service ends at the port of discharge. Inland delivery within Pakistan is arranged by your clearing agent, who is also handling customs. Tell us the final destination anyway, since it can affect which port makes more sense for your cargo.

Can the port handle a very large machine?

Heavy-lift capability varies by terminal, and this is worth settling before booking rather than on arrival. For flat-rack and breakbulk cargo the crane capacity and yard equipment at the discharge port matter. We check it as part of routing your shipment.

Commercial and personal cargo
Can you ship general commercial cargo to Pakistan?

Yes. Full container load commercial cargo from any US origin to Karachi or Port Qasim is normal work for us, with nationwide collection and US export filing handled the same way as any other shipment. Tell us the commodity, weight and volume and we will quote it.

Can I ship household goods and personal effects?

Yes, containerised household effects move on this lane. Everything must be declared properly on the export filing and Pakistani clearance rules for personal effects are handled by your agent at destination. Tell us the full contents at quote stage so it is filed correctly from the start.

Can I mix machinery and other goods in one container?

Sometimes, but everything must be declared and mixed loads can complicate clearance at destination. Undeclared or poorly described goods are one of the most common causes of clearance delays anywhere. Send us the full inventory and we will tell you whether it is sensible to combine.

Do you offer less than container load?

Consolidation is available on request. For smaller commercial shipments it can be considerably cheaper than paying for a full container you cannot fill. Tell us the volume and weight and we will advise whether consolidation or a 20ft container works out better.

Paperwork and process
What US export paperwork do you handle?

We handle the US side, including the filing in the Automated Export System, known as AES or EEI. You provide the commercial invoice, packing list and ownership documents as applicable. Pakistani import duty, clearance and any regulatory approvals are handled at destination by your clearing agent.

Do you handle customs clearance in Pakistan?

No. Clearance is handled by a licensed clearing agent in Pakistan, working through the national single window system. We are the ocean carrier, we deliver to the port of discharge, and we provide the documentation your agent needs. Be cautious with any company claiming to clear customs everywhere.

How quickly will I get a quote for Pakistan?

Within 24 to 48 hours in normal cases. Send the cargo details including the machine model where applicable, the dimensions and weight, the US location, and whether you want Karachi Port or Port Qasim. For machinery the model number lets us look up most of the transport data ourselves rather than asking you for it. Request a quote
