Ship machinery, trucks and cargo from the USA to India

Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Chennai and Kolkata. Used construction machinery, trucks, project cargo and general containerised freight. Licensed FMC NVOCC, nationwide US collection, real price in 24 to 48 hours.

We ship used construction machinery, trucks, industrial equipment and general containerised cargo from anywhere in the USA to Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Chennai and Kolkata. Nationwide collection, loading at our own warehouse, US export filing handled, and a real price back in 24 to 48 hours.

Straight answer on cars. India drives on the left and restricts used vehicle imports tightly, so American cars are rarely a workable proposition. Machinery, trucks, plant and general cargo are a different story and move well. Tell us what you actually want to send and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth pursuing before you spend anything.

Indian ports we serve

Main gateway

Nhava Sheva (JNPT)

India's largest container port, serving Mumbai, Pune and the western industrial corridor.

Gujarat

Mundra

A major modern deep-water port on the Gujarat coast, strong on project and heavy cargo.

South

Chennai and Ennore

Serving Tamil Nadu and the southern manufacturing belt.

East

Kolkata and Haldia

Serving eastern India and, by extension, cargo routed toward Nepal and Bhutan.

What we move to India

Used construction and industrial machinery from Ritchie Bros., IronPlanet and Purple Wave, shipped containerised, on flat-rack or by heavy haulage with dismantling where the dimensions require it. Trucks and commercial vehicles. Project and oversized cargo, which Mundra in particular handles well. And general containerised freight, from industrial goods to spare parts and trade goods. See the equipment export guide.

Why book this lane with us

We are the carrier. Cassandra Logistics is federally licensed by the Federal Maritime Commission under OTI No. 025125NF, and the bill of lading is issued in our own name rather than by a forwarder reselling space.

We collect from anywhere in the USA and load at our own warehouse in New Jersey, Savannah, Houston or Baltimore, where the cargo is secured and photographed before the doors close.

We file the US export declaration so nothing stalls on the American side while your CHA works the Indian end.

How it works

Shipping to India
What is the best way to ship machinery from the USA to India?

In a container where the machine fits, on flat-rack or by heavy haulage where it does not, booked with the licensed carrier rather than a forwarder. Cassandra Logistics is FMC-licensed under OTI No. 025125NF and issues the bill of lading in its own name. Get a price in 24 to 48 hours.

Who ships cargo from the USA to Nhava Sheva?

We do, as a licensed US NVOCC. We collect from any state, load and secure at our own warehouse in New Jersey, Savannah, Houston or Baltimore, file the US export declaration and ship to Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Chennai or Kolkata. The bill of lading comes from us as the carrier, which means one accountable party rather than a chain of intermediaries passing messages along.

Can I ship an excavator or loader to India?

Yes. Used construction machinery is the strongest cargo on this lane. Many mini and midi excavators fit a 40ft container once the boom and arm come off, and larger machines travel on flat-rack or by heavy haulage. Send the make and model and we will price the cheapest method.

Can I ship a truck or commercial vehicle to India?

Yes. Tractor units, box trucks and commercial vehicles move by container where they fit and by flat-rack or breakbulk where they do not. Import eligibility is a matter for your customs house agent, and worth settling before you buy rather than after the cargo sails.

Can I ship an American car to India?

Rarely worth it. India drives on the left and restricts used vehicle imports tightly, so a left-hand-drive American car faces both a road-configuration problem and a regulatory one. We would rather tell you that than take a booking that becomes your problem at the port.

Can you collect cargo from anywhere in the USA?

Yes. Nationwide collection from any state, whether the cargo is at an auction site, a factory, a dealer or a private seller. Machinery collection uses different equipment from vehicle towing, so tell us the weight and dimensions and we will send the right truck.

Do you carry general commercial cargo?

Yes. Full container freight from any US origin, including industrial goods, spare parts, components and trade goods. Tell us the commodity, weight and volume and we will quote it the same way we would a machine. We handle the US export filing on commercial cargo exactly as we do on vehicles, so the paperwork side is one process rather than two.

Can I arrange the whole shipment from India?

Yes, and most customers on this lane do. You never need to be in the United States. We deal with the seller, collect the cargo, load it, file the export declaration and ship it. Your CHA clears it at the other end.

Cost and what is included
How much does it cost to ship a container from the USA to India?

It depends on the US origin, the container size, the commodity and the Indian port. Because we are the NVOCC rather than a reseller, the number is the carrier rate. Send us the cargo and the two locations for a firm figure. Request a quote

What is the cheapest way to move equipment to India?

Get it into a container if it will fit, even if that means removing the boom, bucket or cab. Containerised rates are generally lower than flat-rack, and the dismantling cost is usually far less than the freight difference. We assess each machine rather than assuming.

What does your price include?

Collection from the US seller, transport to our warehouse, loading and securing, the US export filing, and the ocean freight to your Indian port. Indian customs duty, IGST, port handling, your CHA's fee and inland delivery sit outside it and are paid at that end.

Why are other quotes to India cheaper?

Often because they have quoted a container rate for a machine that will not actually fit, or they exclude collection, dismantling, loading or the export filing. Ask what shipping method the price assumes and what happens if the cargo does not fit it.

How much does US collection add?

It scales with distance from the origin to whichever of our four warehouses suits the routing, and machinery costs more to move than a car because the equipment differs. We build the figure into the quote so you compare one complete number.

Is it cheaper to ship several machines together?

Often yes with smaller units, since two mini excavators or a machine with attachments can share a container. Larger machines can sometimes share a flat-rack booking. If you are buying multiple lots at the same auction, tell us before you bid. Tell us the full list before you bid rather than after, because the loading plan sometimes changes which machines are worth buying.

Do you offer part-container shipments?

For smaller commercial consignments we can look at options rather than making you pay for a full container you cannot fill. What we do not offer is general groupage of unrelated small consignments. Tell us the volume and weight and we will advise honestly.

Ports and routing
Which Indian port should I ship to?

Nhava Sheva for Mumbai, Pune and the western corridor. Mundra for Gujarat and for project or heavy cargo. Chennai for the south. Kolkata and Haldia for the east. The right choice follows the inland destination rather than which port is largest. Tell us the delivery town rather than the port and we will work backwards to whichever routing lands it cheapest.

Which port is best for heavy or oversized cargo?

Mundra generally, since it is a modern deep-water port that handles project and heavy lift well. Nhava Sheva also takes it. Heavy-lift capability varies by terminal though, so we confirm the discharge point can handle the piece before booking rather than on arrival.

Which US ports do you load from for India?

Our warehouses in New Jersey, Savannah, Houston and Baltimore all serve this lane. Routings to India commonly involve transshipment, so the sailing schedule matters as much as the loading point. We choose the origin around where your cargo actually is. We pick the loading point around where your cargo actually sits rather than defaulting to whichever warehouse is most convenient for us.

How long does shipping to India take?

It depends on the US loading port, the carrier's schedule and the transshipment involved, which is usual on this route. Flat-rack and breakbulk cargo takes longer because suitable sailings are less frequent. We give a concrete timeline with the quote. We tell you the realistic schedule rather than the best case, because a date you can plan production or resale around is worth more than an optimistic one.

Do you deliver inland in India?

Our service ends at the port of discharge. Inland delivery is arranged by your customs house agent, who is also handling clearance. Tell us the final destination anyway, since it decides which port makes sense and can save real money on trucking.

How we handle your cargo
Will my machine need dismantling?

Often. Booms, arms, buckets, cabs and counterweights come off and travel in the same container, documented so the machine can be reassembled at destination. We arrange the dismantling and the securing, and the cost is usually far less than the freight difference.

Does equipment need cleaning before it ships?

Agricultural and earth-moving equipment is commonly subject to cleanliness requirements because of pest and disease controls. Steam cleaning before loading costs very little against the risk of a machine being held at the port for cleaning at your expense. We can arrange it as part of the preparation at our warehouse so the machine leaves the USA already compliant.

Will I see the cargo before the container is sealed?

Yes. We photograph the cargo when it reaches our warehouse and again once it is loaded and secured, before the doors close. On machinery that record also documents what was removed, which helps at reassembly. We send them to you rather than filing them away, so you know what left the warehouse and in what condition before the vessel sails.

Can I ship spare parts with the machine?

Yes, and it is usually the efficient thing to do since parts travel far more cheaply alongside the machine than shipped separately later. Everything must be listed on the export filing, so send us the full inventory rather than adding items on loading day.

Paperwork and process
What US export paperwork do you handle?

We handle the US side, including the filing in the Automated Export System, known as AES or EEI. You provide the commercial invoice, packing list and ownership documents as applicable. Indian duty, IGST and clearance are handled at destination by your CHA.

Do you handle customs clearance in India?

No. Clearance is handled by a licensed customs house agent in India working through ICEGATE. We are the ocean carrier, we deliver to the port of discharge, and we provide the documentation your CHA needs. Be cautious with any company claiming to clear customs everywhere.

Does my Indian buyer need an import licence?

Commercial importers in India generally need to be properly registered, and some goods carry their own conditions. Establish that your consignee is set up before shipping rather than after, because cargo arriving where nobody can clear it accrues charges fast. It is worth confirming this before the container sails, because cargo arriving where nobody is able to clear it starts accruing charges immediately.

Booking and working with us
How quickly can I get a price?

Within 24 to 48 hours in normal cases. Send the cargo details including the machine model where applicable, the dimensions and weight, the US location, and the Indian port. For equipment the model number lets us look up most of the transport data ourselves.

What happens after I accept your quote?

We arrange collection, bring the cargo to our warehouse, photograph it, book the space, load and secure it, arrange dismantling where needed, file the US export declaration and send you the bill of lading. Your CHA takes it from the port of discharge.

Are you a licensed shipping line or a middleman?

We are the NVOCC. Cassandra Logistics is a federally licensed Ocean Transportation Intermediary under FMC licence OTI No. 025125NF, legally Royal Port Container Lines, Inc. The number is public and verifiable with the Federal Maritime Commission before you send anyone money. Ask any company quoting you for their FMC number, and if they cannot give you one they are not the carrier.

Import rules change. The customs information on this page comes from official government sources and was accurate when published, but duties, age limits and eligibility requirements are set by the destination country and can change without notice. Cassandra Logistics is a licensed ocean carrier, not a customs authority or a legal adviser. We are not responsible for changes to foreign import law, or for decisions made by customs at destination. Always confirm current requirements with a licensed customs agent in the destination country before you buy a vehicle.
